Rahur Kala Pooja from September 11, 2012

Rahur Kala Pooja will be started on September 11,2012 Tuesday between 3.00 PM  to 4.30 PM.

Rahur Kala Pooja:
This Pooja is offered by the women folks  on every Tuesdays during the RahuKalam (3.00 PM to 4.30 PM). The lights are lit on symmetrically cut  Naranga (Lemon) during this time along with the chanting of appropriate scared mantras. (The current practice of  lighting  the Naranga Villkau after 5.30 PM on Tuesdays is hereafter discontinued, on advice of Temple Tantri. Tantri is of the opinion that optimum benefit of lighting Naranga Vilakku can be derived only during the Rahu Kalam  on every Tuesdays). Rahu kala Archanas can also be done along with the Rahur Kala Pooja.

Reason for offering Rahur Kala Pooja:
Rahur kala pooja by lighting Narangavillaku along with chanting of appropriate scared mantras is said to be the most  ideal and simple  remedy for Rahu Doosha Nivarana.

Story / Legend Behind the Pooja:
So the story goes like this- " A couple was blessed with a child after their continuous prayers to Divine Mother. The child reached her puberty age and the parents decided to seek an astrologer to ask the fate of the child in future. The couple was shocked to get to know that their daughter has “ Ragu Thosam ( very bad time –Ragu is controlling her time ) and the ninth day from her birthday, a black serpent will bite her to death. Hearing this, the couple rushed to get the protection and remedies from Mother Devi. At this moment, Goddess Parvathy who wander as a saint in earth to help her devotees and Parvathy took the vow to save the child. The time comes and as predicted before , Ragu ( the serpent-head ) changes himself as a serpent and try his very best to kill the girl. Each of his attempt been blocked by  Mother Devi  and at last  Mother Devi herself reincarnate as the girl and Ragu mistakenly bite  Mother Devi  thus made a sinful act. Ragu beg for forgiveness and as a reward he let go the girl. In forgiving his mistakes, Mother Devi reminded  him that Ragu thosam and Ragu`s influences will ease for those who are performing Pooja for her at Ragu Kalam ( a bad time ) and those who are conducting the pooja an their family members  will be blessed by Mother Devi".
